Can I play Age of Empires II: DE with friends on another platform?
Windows players on Steam and Microsoft Store can play with Xbox and PlayStation 5 players. Use the same game build and enable crossplay if a friend's lobby is missing. PlayStation crossplay requires a linked Microsoft/Xbox account. The native macOS version only supports multiplayer with other Mac players, even when both players bought the game on Steam.
How many people can join, and can we play a campaign together?
Multiplayer matches support up to eight players in total. Selected Co-Op Campaign scenarios let you play with one other person; check the Co-Op Campaign selection before choosing a mission. For a custom match, agree on human and AI slots, teams, and difficulty before inviting players. The eight-player match limit is not a fixed cooperative party size.
What accounts or subscriptions should our Age of Empires II group check?
Steam players do not need an Xbox account for ordinary play. Microsoft Store and Xbox players use their Xbox account. PlayStation online multiplayer needs PlayStation Plus, and crossplay needs Microsoft/Xbox account linking; that original account association cannot be replaced. Xbox console online multiplayer needs an eligible Game Pass plan. Check your platform's online access before the session.
How can I arrange an Age of Empires II community tournament?
Find opponents on Micr, then create your matches in Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition. For a small 1v1 bracket, agree on compatible platforms, game version, map pool, allowed civilizations and expansions, series length, and result reporting.
